@X46RAPTOR & Kem1880. Actually It’s a combination of both of your comments. I saw an episode from Richard Quest on CNN Business Traveler and he took this flight BA001 explaining what you to are commenting now. Its because the A318 cannot takeoff with full fuel load to KJFK, they make a fuel stop at Shannon & during this time the passengers can clear customs and immigration to US. Right now Shannon is the only place outside the US that has this facility & is promoting this to other airlines too.

@CaptainPrad No, it’s a normal A318. They have a technical stop in Shanon, Ireland and then do the crossing, it then fly’s directly to LCY from New York. But it is a long flight, I see your point.
