Private jet charter is an exclusive air service, which caters the flying needs of the individual or group of individuals, who want to reach their destination of choice in quick, easy and comfortable way. An individual or a company can charter a plane depending upon the budget. Hiring a private jet is a costly business because private jet company has to invest heavily to operate an air service. The pilots are highly trained and have a vast flying experience before they join a private jet charter service. Naturally they draw handsome salaries from their employer.

The air hostesses and other flying staff also enjoy the distinction of being the cream of the industry. Their talent and experience helps the private jet company to provide world class flying experience to their passengers. This comes at a big price, because eventually the company has to pay for smooth running of the service.

The private jet charter is quite expensive and is used by rich executives, businessmen, politicians and other famous personalities. A group of people can also charter a plane if they have a common destination. This reduces their travelling time as they do not have to wait in long queues for security check, to board a commercial airliner.

Busy company executives find private jet charter, invaluable. Some private jet companies provide airport drop and pick-up service, in their flying package. The passenger is driven right up to the plane on the runaway and all the baggage is loaded on the plane, without any delays. In few minutes after the ground clearance, the plane is airborne and executive starts enjoying the luxuries offered by the private jet company. The air hostesses tend their passenger with lavish food and drinks, so that they have an enjoyable and relaxing trip to their destination.

The onboard over sized reclining chairs, relax the executive completely and do not allow the jet lag to set in. The executive can continue their office work in flight because private jet company provides full fledged on board office facilities like telephone network, Wi-Fi compatibility, desks and video conferencing. Companies find it easy to charter a plane. Their busy executives can hop into a private plane and fly straight to their destination. The privacy and luxury of the private jet charter service provides to great atmosphere to executives to conclude any pending official work and be ready for the scheduled business meeting or conference.

Companies find it fiscally cheaper to charter a plane if a group of executives are flying out for a business meets with their clients. This is cheaper than buying multiple tickets in the commercial jet liner. Some private jet charter services offer bodyguards and armored cars for top business executives, who might be the target of potential criminal or terrorist attack. Thus private jet charter offers customized flying services to globetrotting business executives so that they can strike the best deals for their company.

Question by SOCAL: Private jets?
is it hard to become a private jet pilot ? do they get paid less then commercial airline pilots such as cont. or cargo pilots like UPS…. whats the salary and benefits for private jet pilots? how do people get hired for this position?

Best answer:

Answer by Bill and Gin C
I am Director of Maintenance of a corporate jet facility and part 135 operation. We send our pilots to school to get type rated if they are not already, this is at our or our customers expense. BUT!! These pilots MUST have at least 3000 hours total time before we can hire them because that is the magic number for insurance purposes. They are paid VERY handsomely. Better than commercial at first but not as much in the long haul but the difference (on our scale) is not that great. Cargo pilots do not average as much as passenger pilots. Best way to get hired is to get the hours and then send out resumes. I look for hours as PIC (or even SIC in dual pilot aircraft such as Hawker Etc.) in applicable aircraft and experience with airports I deal with.

A Company’s Guide to Very Light Jets

The world economy had been in its crucial point for years triggered by the event that shook the whole world on the 11th day of September 2001. By then, a sudden shift in the world of aviation was marked by the decline of aircraft orders for big aircraft manufacturing companies like Boeing and Airbus. The airline industry felt such pressure where even stringent security checks to travellers on  airports owing to the above act of terrorism caused delays to passengers on every airline flights. Business jets just came in time to fill the need for that category of passengers flying on business class flights. Well, if one’s business could mean millions of losses for a company member who fails to attend a business conference a thousand miles away on time, that business firm could definitely afford to operate a company owned business jet.

Cessna Citation Mustang

Cessna had been manufacturing planes since Clyde established the company in September 1927; from its high wing single-engined piston models which no doubt launched most pilots in their first taste of flight. The company’s track record with jet powered aircraft couldn’t be undermined with its experience in manufacturing mid-sized business jets through the Citation series of aircraft. The Citation Mustang was FAA certified in September 2006 and adds up to the company’s list of options for buyers. Priced at some $ 2.53 million, it was certified for single pilot operation (dual controls for co-pilot standard on each models) and seats 4 passengers.

Specs:

Max. cruise speed:   340 knots (630 kph); Powerplant:  2 Pratt & Whitney PW615F turbofans

Range:   2,161 km   ;  Service Ceiling: 41,000 ft ;   Take-off Distance: 3,110 ft ; Max. T/O Weight:  8,644 lbs

Eclipse 500

Eclipse 500 was manufactured by Eclipse Aviation and gained certification in December 2006. With the course of the world crisis, the company entered into bankruptcy and the name was assumed by a new company which acquired the assets in the name of Eclipse Aerospace (Wikipedia). The aircraft seats 6 passengers and was marketed at $ 2.45 million back in 2009.

Specs:

Max. cruise speed:   370 knots (685 kph)   Powerplant: 2 Pratt & Whitney PW 610F turbofans

Range:  1,125 nm (2,084 km); Service ceiling: 41,000 ft ; Take-off Distance: 2,345 ft ; Max. T/O Weight:  5,950 lbs

Embraer Phenom 100

The Phenom 100 was Embraer’sentry option to the VLJ market. The company’s credibility in aircraft manufacturing was well established being Brazil’s leading aircraft manufacturing and exporting company. It has manufactured military aircraft and franchised the assembly of small aircraft for other manufacturing companies and lately started a line of medium sized wide body aircraft for the airline industry. The Phenom 100 seats 4 passengers in standard configuration and could accommodate 6 in maximized version. It has a market price of $ 3.6 million (Wikipedia).

Specs:

Max. cruise speed:   389 knots (722 kph);   Powerplant: 2 Pratt & Whitney PW 617F-E turbofans

Range:  2,182 km;      Service ceiling: 41,000 ft ;    Max. T/O Weight:  10,471 lbs

Diamond Jet

Targeted to offer lower operating costs than its competition, the D-Jet was priced at $ 1.89 million in March 2009 (Wikipedia). Diamond Aircraft Industries was an established aircraft manufacturing company with headquarters at Austria and has been around for decades manufacturing General Aviation aircraft mostly of lightweight and composite construction. The D-Jet was its first entry on the jet aircraft business and had its first flight in April 2008.

Specs:

Max. cruise speed:   315 knots (583 kph);   Powerplant: 1 Williams International FJ33-4A-19 turbofan

Range:  1,350 nm (2,500 km);  Service ceiling: 25,000 ft ;  Max. T/O Weight:  5,690 lbs

HA-420 Honda Jet

Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. entered the VLJ market with this innovative designed jet aircraft easily identified with its engine mount configuration. The engine mount was inverted with the engine pylon attached at the upper rear of the wing. Probably just a practical solution when the aircraft was a low wing. As defended by Honda engineers, the upper wing engine mount has lesser flutter (vibration) tendencies while on flight thus allows for an efficient and safer aircraft design configuration. Well if you believe in the “Power of Dreams” as the company motto puts it, you will admire the credibility in this Japanese company which had been a pioneer in cars, motorcycles and jetskis. This aircraft seats 5 passengers in standard configuration and priced at $ 3.9 million with deliveries to start by 2011 (Wikipedia).

Specs:

Max. cruise speed:   420 knots (778 kph);   Powerplant: 2  GE- Honda HF 120 turbofans

Range:  1,400 nm (2,593 km);  Service ceiling: 43,000 ft ;  Max. T/O Weight:  9, 200 lbs

Question by Daisy Duke: How often are there seat sales on West Jet Airlines?
I am wanting to go from Winnipeg to Calgary on Oct. Long weekend, the Thursday – Monday. I checked last week and the seats were going for 99 dollars each, this week they are going for 129 each. Do you think they will go back down in the next month or two so?

Best answer:

Answer by Yankees34
the longer you wait to buy your tickets the higher they will be. the general rule of thumb is to purchase your ticket 8-12 weeks before your departure, that way you get the cheapest possible tickets 99% of the time this goes for any airline I do it all the time and it works for me.

How To Reduce The Effects Of Jet Lag For A Better Vacation Or Business Trip

Research and wisdom from seasoned travelers combine to provide us with helpful tips on how to avoid the dreaded travel companion.

Jet lag occurs when an air traveler crosses multiple time zones bound for his or her business or holiday destination and the body fails to adjust to the differences in time between the original location and the destination. This causes physical troubles for the traveler such as headache, disorientation, fatigue, soreness, and inability to sleep, not to mention being deprived of the holiday feeling or the alertness necessary if business is the travel’s purpose.

Jet lag is common, widespread, and natural. It is also a source of seemingly unavoidable discomfort among air travelers. However, numerous studies and the accumulated experiences of countless individuals who have had to inevitably endure this situation have given us some insight into how we might reduce the impact, if not completely avoid jet lag the next time we board a plane bound for business or vacation.

Pop some Melatonin

Melatonin capsules or tablets are widely used by travelers to help themselves adjust more quickly and completely to their destination’s time zone. These remedies typically need to be taken a few days while staying in the new location to help the affected individual fall asleep without the difficulty associated with jet lag.

Adjust as quickly as you could

Your body is now operating in a new time zone. Eat when it’s time to do so, and sleep when it’s required—in the new time zone. This is easier said than done for the body will attempt to function as though it were still in its original location. Yet, succeeding here will probably have the most effect in reducing jet lag.

Steer clear of caffeine and alcohol

Sipping a bit of liquor or downing a glass of wine upon arriving at your destination in the hope of being able to sleep is not a good idea. Alcohol leads to dehydration, keeping you more awake as the body tries to search for fluid replenishment. Caffeine will also mess up the sleep cycle, with or without jet lag; by the way, so drinking coffee will only increase your suffering from jet lag.

It’s in the direction.

Researchers tell us that the direction of the flight has a significant influence on how jet lag might affect a traveler. Apparently, flying from West to East leads to difficulty in sleeping in the evening in the new location and similar difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. A flight from East to West, on the other hand, contributes greatly to evening sleepiness and early awakening in the new time zone. It is also believed that westbound travelers suffer more severe bouts with jet lag than their eastbound counterparts. Incidentally, it is said that travelers who go from North to south or vice versa suffer no symptoms of the condition.

Question by SMG: What happened to the Jet blue flight with twisted nose gear?
Anyone know any information on that Jet Blue flight that had to do a crash landing in LAX due to twisted front wheel?
Why did that happen?

Best answer:

Answer by Peter B
It didn’t “do a crash landing.” They made an emergency landing with the nosegear as it was, evacuated the people and towed the aircraft off the runway. The nosegear was replaced, the aircraft was inspected and is flying again.
