Holiday apartments and villas in Lanzarote have become very popular with tourists in recent years. As the internet has enabled consumers to build and book their own holidays abroad direct online with the owners. And this has resulted in a growing number of overseas investors buying up properties across the island – in order to use as holiday homes for themselves, whilst also renting them out to other tourists when not in occupation.

Traditionally British buyers have fuelled this sector of the Lanzarote property market – although economic events of the last year and the current weakness of sterling against the euro have taken their toll on demand.

Either way however Lanzarote remains a very popular holiday destination and an ideal investment option. As it welcomes over 1.3 million tourists every year and boasts a twelve month rental calendar – thanks to its great year round climate. Which means that owners can enjoy consistent rental returns.

There are three main holiday resorts on the island – but the top two, Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen – are some way ahead of Costa Teguise. Playa Blanca is the fastest growing resort and enjoys the best weather, making it an ideal investment option. However villas in Puerto del Carmen are also very popular with tourists – as this is the largest resort on the island.

There are plenty of interesting rural options available too – as many visitors to the island like to stay outside of the main resorts, not least as Lanzarote boasts some truly unique and surreal volcanic countryside. Formed by violent volcanic activity which shook the island during the 1730´s.

Don’t panic however as these volcanoes are now dormant – and have become Lanzarote´s most visited tourist attraction. Whilst also regularly providing a backdrop for the makers of science fiction films and ad agencies seeking dramatic scenery for photo shoots and campaigns.

Cheap, independent flights are also available in abundance on key routes from the main market of the UK. With services available from Ryanair, easyJet, Monarch and Thomas Cook – alongside charter flights with Thomson’s and First Choice. Providing plenty of cheap options for getting to Lanzarote.

The island can be enjoyed at any time of the year thanks to the fact that the mercury here rarely falls below 20 degrees Celsius. And there is also very little in the way of rainfall – with the island recording just 8mm of precipitation per month.
